'WITH THE SWALLOWS'

In April 2026 Rita from WSJ Gallery invited Hannah to present an exhibition inspired by her time spent in Cape Town. The exhibition also featured works by Julian Brown and Karen Radford.

‘With the Swallows’ is a collection of work made largely in Cape Town where Hannah migrates every winter, as the swallows do. Inspired by her time spent there - the colours, nature, energy of the city and the vast array of craft originating there. This collection pays homage to her fixation with the place and also where she honed her craft.

Inspiration for these pieces mainly comes from the natural world, particularly the indigenous plants found around Table Mountain, whether this is in the colours used, or the figuration. I have always enjoyed creating ‘dream worlds’ within my works, making exaggerated versions of the colours and shapes of tropical landscapes and what’s hidden within them.
