Silo Studio is the design studio of artist and designer Hannah Watts. It consists of Hannah’s artwork as well as homewares she has designed. It has become a space for Hannah to play; experimenting with different mediums and ideas and collaborating with like minded creatives. With a strong interest in hand made craft everything has either been created in house by Hannah, or designed and made by specialist artisans.
The current collection of lamps and candlesticks focuses on hand thrown, hand painted ceramics designed by Hannah and made in a small family run workshop in Italy.
Hannah Watts (b.1997) is a multidisciplinary artist based between London and Hampshire. Inspired by lifelong visits to South Africa, she creates striking ceramic vessels and platters, largely using the sgraffito technique.
Time spent in Africa has been the basis of her craft. Having informally trained in ceramics whilst living in Cape Town, the continent has provided core inspiration both in its natural landscape but also with craft originating there, particularly textiles from West Africa.
Growing up on a farm, Hannah was immersed in the natural world, which became a rich and lasting source of inspiration. Whilst currently living and working in London, Hannah uses the concept of feeling and memory to guide her practice making up ‘dreamworlds’ within her designs, deploying a loose instinctive approach and embracing imperfection. Colour and pattern play a key role in Hannah’s work, choosing her shades intentionally to evoke a sense of place or a lingering impression.
