CRAFTSMANSHIP

 SILO STUDIO

All Silo Studio products have either been hand made by Hannah, sourced and re-worked into an art piece or designed in house and made by talented artisans from around the world. Hannah uses her photos and collection of African art and textiles as references for all her designs. Specialsing in painted ceramics, collage and design; Hannah aims to create products for Silo Studio to work inside the modern western home with a sense of the exotic.

FABRIC

All our fabrics have been printed in a printing mill based in West London. The family run business uses traditional printing techniques and is all managed under one roof - from our design to production to finishing and dispatch. We work alongside the team, sending them our initial designs, and then incorporating their advice on what will work best for us and our desired effect.

CERAMIC

Unless made in house, our ceramics are designed by us and then made in a small, family run workshop in Italy. The workshop has been running since 1970, using the same traditional techniques of hand throwing and hand painting each piece. This ensures the highest quality and is a demonstration of great craftsmanship which we are proud to support and keep alive.

WEAVE

Our woven bowls are hand made in our designs by a women’s collective in rural South Africa. The weaving technique dates back to when night shift security workers used age old grass basket weaving techniques with discarded telephone wire to decorate their security sticks. They then brought back these skills to their wives and children who started weaving colourful bowls to sell. For some this gains an extra income to support their families and for some a full time job. We are proud to support these talented artisans and to keep hand made craft alive.
